About

Are you curious if faith, feminism and Christian womanhood can intersect? You've found the crossroads. Ruby Slippers is the sparkly nexus of femininity, spirituality and sexual renewal.

I'm the early wife, later mother who writes about the real possibility of following Jesus as a bold female in this century. If you're another curious cat about strong women who are also sexy, emotional, intelligent, strong and Christian, read on.

Fight Fair: How to Argue Without Destroying Others (and Yourself)

March 7th, 2012 by Jonalyn

My parent’s celebrated their 34th wedding anniversary last weekend with a trip to Disneyland.  I got a text of my mother riding Space Mountain with my tall father beside her. They were smiling in glee. I feel their faithfulness to each other remains a diamond-gift to their four children. When I got married over 10 [...]

Poor Start for Friends

February 29th, 2012 by Jonalyn

When I first moved to Virginia I knew I needed friends. It was easy to find girls like me. That’s a rock solid foundation for a friendship: similar interests. I found a friend, call her Debbie, who loved French class and good tea, talking theology and breaking out of the box in loving Jesus. She [...]

Gifts of Vulnerability for Christmas

December 21st, 2011 by Jonalyn

To my faithful ~ Dale and I have come to a deeply practical, life-giving understanding. I look forward to sharing in a future post how our new set-up has changed all of us, including Finn.  This turning of a new leaf will be an appropriate bit of sharing for the New Year. For now, I [...]

Coffee Shop Conversations: Making the Most of Spiritual Small Talk

September 28th, 2011 by Jonalyn

Have you found it difficult to talk to others about your faith? Dale and I realized we needed to think harder and write more on this subject. A few years I authored “Boutique Religion” a Fledge series (spiritual formation articles on how to be Positively Human) with tips on communicating Jesus’ message to those we [...]

Talking to Young Girls

August 10th, 2011 by Jonalyn

When you meet a little girl, one wrapped in pink tulle or a quirky, bold hat, what do you say? “What a fun hat!”,  ”Look at your dress, you look so sweet in that!” Her blue eyes sparkle and I’m IN. They want to talk to me. All for an easily spoken, easily created compliment [...]

Golden Hands and Exotic Poles

March 2nd, 2011 by Jonalyn

Being a little more than a quarter Hispanic, given the multi-ethnic look of so many models, it’s be easy to assume that it’s the Mexican blood that has the potential to make me exotic. But, if exotic means strikingly unusual, then the most unusual bit of me isn’t Mexican, it’s Polish. My short grandmother is [...]

Evangelistic Tagging and Female Friends

October 17th, 2010 by Jonalyn

So these two ideas are not necessarily related, but they do summarize 2 writing projects (one small and one big) I’ve been working on. As I’m writing in several places, I thought it would be good for your sanity and organization to know that this blog will keep you updated on new places to read [...]
